Big Ten Basketball Players to Watch: No. 25 – Aaron Cosby

No. 25 – Aaron Cosby, G (Illinois)

2013-14 Stats: Sat Out as Transfer

Career Stats: 12.6ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.0apg, 42.6 FG %, 75.2 FT %, 31.2min

Why you need to know him: Transfers have been kind to head coach Jim Groce so far, but there hasn’t been a more game-changing transfer than Cosby coming to Champaign. The Illini suffered big time last season with a lack of outside shooting and Cosby brings that in spades. Cosby shot 40 percent from behind the arc in his one year at Seton Hall, and all indications are he only got better with the year off the court.

He also brings a nice mix of youth and experience to the table, as he’s got a season of starting under his belt as a freshman at Seton Hall. What this team needs is someone who can take control on the perimeter, and Cosby did that with the Pirates and he can do that with the Illini too. At 6-3, 200 pounds, Cosby also has the height to take people off the dribble. He does need to cut down on turnovers, but that’s something we won’t know about until the ball is tipped and the season gets underway.

If Illinois is going to be a factor in the upper half of the Big Ten this season, look to Cosby as a big reason for that improvement.
